Still working on [this]. And the background is still killing me. I’m somewhere in the homestretch though. I was going to do a bigger clip of the image but I figured it’s probably more interesting to see the same portion I was working on previously.

…And somehow Strife looks like more of a douchebag than he did in the first image.

I know it’s iconic for Luke to have a middrift. (HowcouldI?!) But while they are cute they’re also a big petpeeve of mine. They’re impractical for a fighter and just make me think of how vulnerable they leave you. The perfect target. Perfect for gutting your entrails. (Not that you aren’t fabulous Luke)

Anyway, jumping the gun a bit here, but I wanted to post something up since it’s been a little while since my last one. This is the first heroine where I gave a weapon colour to something abstract, her voice! This is actually the early design that I nailed down for Katsucon. You got to get a peek at it back in February if you stopped by my booth c:

This is a part of the Heroines as heroes set I’m working on from the Tales series, where I’m drawing all of the ladies in heroes clothing. This is girl #9 (we skipped #8), fourth girl in my current set of five.

Sketchbook doodles!
Something to keep you guys busy while I finish working on a commission.

It’s [this lady] again. I’ve started developing a pesky spirit that seems to stalk her around and possess the imagery she creates. It’s a benign enough pest for her to literally brush away, but it has a disturbing persistance. Maybe there’s a possible storyline here?

The guy below is a character who I was fooling around with around the same time I created the lady above. He doesn’t have a gift exactly, it’s more like plants seem to just really like him.

Aa…”Sisters”, right Senel?
The more I worked on this the more I was reminded of how much I ha-ate Senel’s outfit. I have nothing against him. And I like the outfit in theory but it kills me aesthetically! Just…. too much… asymmetry. And badly placed shapes. I enjoyed the challenge though. It was a difficult design to keep close to the original while still changing enough to be more pleasing. I went through quite a few drafts and came out pretty cute!

It’s almost been a good year since I’ve been to Sketchy’s and not for lack of wanting to, but simply being unable to go. It was nice to get out of the house and do some figure drawing with some lovely ladyage.

The messy squiggly drawing is a non-dominant hand drawing and the themes for the crazy costumed ones were “Nerf Gun” and “John Waters” which just led to a very divine Divine. (I wont pretend like I dont enjoy making ladies fabulous)

My figure drawings are not shabby for having been a while.

…and for those of you who don’t know what that quote is from, its from Kihel’s speech from Turn A Gundam. Like Claire, Kihel switches places with the leader of another race and is forced to make a moving speech. Unlike Claire, Kihel was an aristocrat interested in politics so her speech was good enough to both fool and move millions. Claire was from a rural town and made hers about pie. Peach pie. You were so close.

But this is why I have her holding an olive branch with her flowers. I’m not a big fan of yours, but I really like that you stood for racial equality. I also like that you almost kinda look like Saber. This is one of my favs so far, so way to go Veigue!

So what have I been up to? ~~Still looking for a job, actually. But~~ I’ve been finishing up some commissions! This is what that looks like. This is for my lovely friend Laitma.

I’m still deciding on how Strife (left) is trying to be to harass her poor, agitated Ian (right). Not that it’s difficult for him. He’s the type of person who annoys people even when he doesn’t mean to.

Super sketchy doodles done before bed last night. I’ve been thinking a lot about this character again. She’s had a lot of different appearances in my sketchbook (and is actually the same girl on my website)

This is actually the first time I’ve actually drawn “her” and not just visuals around her making illusions out of smoke and vapor. So it’s interesting that she came off more predatory and less like the aloof hero she had in my earlier sketches a few years ago.

I’ve had a few ideas but I think I’m starting to find a story for her. If nothing else, I’m 90% sure the bottom-most image is going to end up an illustration.

Now here’s something neat for you artistic types:

GagaSticks…. They’re like… collectible cards. Or maybe business cards? But also magnets. That come with a stick of gum. (That’s a hell of a lot)

I know I posted about them before, but here’s a view of a promotional sample I received so you can see what they look like. Basically both the magnetic business card and gum come foil wrapped as you see to the right one side with an image of your art and the other like a business card.

On the website itself you can either buy a pack with your choice of artist’s cards/magnets. Or you can do what I did and buy a pack of your own to hand out.

I think the concept is pretty neat~ How is that for a conversation starter?

Character designs for Red Riding Hood and Little Mermaid paper doll sets.

The Red Ridinghood set is a revamp on a previous design set that I did a few years ago of a shi-shi style wolf and wolf-hunter red. And The Little Mermaid set is a new set of designs with a lionfish styled mermaid and a harpy witch. (Who better as a witch than a creature who sinks ships with his voice?)

I loved the idea of getting a single character model that you could transform into any one character in a fairytale story. Unfortunately, after doing a test run for these during Katsucon they were too small and the paper too thin.

I plan to do another test run for these in cardstock, but my friend Kat made the awesome suggestion that I make them magnetic so that you can switch the outfits on and off with ease, which is something I’m seriously considering as well.

Would anyone be interested if paper dolls were commission-able?

Hay guys! I also came back with quite a few Tales prints left over so I’m letting you all know I’m putting the extras on sale if anyone is interested:

They’re cute [8.5 x 5.5] glossy prints and mail in [6 x 9] envelopes. ((This includes Tales of the Abyss if you’d like to try buying a wildcard!))

Paper dolls, Tales prints, and commissions. Oh my.
Well Katsucon was sort of a bust, but I did have a lot of fun and some fun stuff to show for it. I’d like to make a post about the fairytale paper dolls and go further into their designs but in due time. They came out too small, sadly, but hay! They still look pretty awesome.

Edit: Oh yeah. And Sailor Chichi. Because that’s how I waste time doodling at Artist Alley.
